The Yifeng Onshore Wind Power Project, planned by Taiya Renewable Energy, is still in the planning and environmental impact assessment stage. The public meeting for the Environmental Impact Statement, originally scheduled for September 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Senior Citizens’ Welfare Center in Chengxing Village, Wujie Township, Yilan County, has been canceled due to the venue’s sudden unavailability and will be rescheduled.
This public meeting, required by the Ministry of Environment’s Environmental Impact Assessment Guidelines, is intended not only for Taiya to explain the project to local residents but also to provide a platform for opinion exchange. Feedback from residents will be incorporated into the Environmental Impact Statement before submission to the competent authority.
On the evening of August 26, 2025, the venue management unexpectedly notified Taiya that the site could not be used. Taiya sincerely apologizes to relevant government agencies and concerned Yilan residents. The new date and venue will be announced in due course.
Currently, Taiya is planning three wind farms in eastern Taiwan, all undergoing legal development procedures: the Dongcheng and Dongfeng projects in Taitung County, and the Yifeng project in Yilan County. All remain in the public opinion collection and environmental impact assessment stages. In recent years, scandals and protests related to renewable energy have fueled public suspicion of solar and wind power. In April, news of the Dongcheng wind project in Changbin Township and Chenggong Township, Taitung, triggered public concern and misunderstanding. Similarly, the recent Dongfeng project public meeting in Dawu Township saw residents mistakenly believe that attending the meeting implied agreement, leading to reluctance to participate, and even the Dawu Township Office (as venue provider) was wrongly accused of favoritism.
Taiya Renewable Energy CEO, Jerry Lee, stated that to avoid misunderstandings and unnecessary conflicts, the public meeting will be postponed. He also apologized to the community development association that had originally agreed to rent the venue.
Lee emphasized that since Yilan County has no wind power facilities yet, residents’ concerns are understandable. Taiya will continue dialogue but reassures the public that the project is still in the early opinion-gathering stage and has not yet entered formal environmental review.
He further stated that Taiya Renewable Energy is a purely private renewable energy company with no political affiliation and urged the public not to be misled by unfounded speculation. As a renewable energy developer, the company not only considers profits but also the importance of sufficient and stable electricity for Taiwan. Electricity is vital to both daily life and economic growth. In light of Taiwan’s 2030 green energy targets and national defense AI computing power demands, Taiya will continue its efforts. Although specializing in renewable energy, the company does not oppose other energy sources, calling instead for diverse power development to prevent shortages and ensure sustainability. All projects must undergo government review and secure local consensus before proceeding—they cannot be developed at will.
