Taiya Renewable Energy Passes EIA for Taiwan’s Phase-3 Zonal Development of Wind Power

The EIA ad hoc committee of Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) approved the project off the coast of Changhua County initiated by local developer Taiya Renewable Energy (TAIYA) today (7th). The project is now eligible to participate in Taiwan’s Phase-3 Zonal Development of Wind Power. According to TAIYA, in addition to this project, the company is also planning other projects, “Huan-Ya Wind Farm” offshore from Miaoli County and “Huan Peng Wind Farm” offshore from Penghu, further making contribution to Taiwan’s promotion of sustainable energy development.

The project off the coast of Changhua County is initiated by local Taiwanese offshore wind developer TAIYA passed the EPA ad hoc review and would be submitted to the EIA Committee for review. TAIYA emphasizes that, passing the EIA ad hoc review is a crucial milestone for catching up Phase-3 zonal development auction and now will prepare the bidding work in full speed.

The project passed the EPA ad hoc review today is off the coast of Changhua County. The wind farm has a surface area of approximately 53 square-kilometers, and the water depth is between 15 and 45 meters; the site is about eight kilometers from the shore and has steered clear of all ESAs (Environmentally Sensitive Areas). The wind farm is projected to generate as much as 1.6 billion kWh/year, which is equivalent to a year’s consumption of 460,000 households.

In addition, TAIYA is also planning other offshore wind farms: “Huan-Ya” is off the coast of Miaoli and “Huan-Peng” is off the shore of Penghu. “Huan-Ya” has a surface area of approximately 78 square-kilometers; the sea depth is between 60 and 80 meters and the site is about 28 kilometers from the shore. The offshore wind farm is projected to generate approximately 3.7 billion kWh/year. “Huan-Peng” consists of three offshore wind farms, which are projected to generate from 3.4 billion kWh/year to 5.6 billion kWh/year.
