TAIYA Signs MOU with NORWEP “Team Taiwan” and “Team Norway” Join Forces in Zonal Development

A new force has joined Taiwan’s zonal wind development. TAIYA Renewable Energy announces today that, as Team Taiwan of offshore wind, it has signed an MOU with Norwegian Energy Partners (NORWEP), so that “Team Norway” and “Team Taiwan” will facilitate technical cooperation between each other’s industry members, jointly introducing new technologies and cooperative energy to Taiwan’s offshore wind zonal development.

TAIYA Renewable Energy announces today its signing of "Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Offshore Wind Industry Technology and Information Exchange" with NORWEP. As “Team Taiwan” and “Team Norway,” the two parties agree to offer each other’s industry members opportunities of cooperation for technical innovation in the area of offshore wind, enhancing the commercial value and competitiveness of offshore wind industry in both countries.

According to CEO Chen Tsung-hua of TAIYA, this year’s launch of zonal development marks a new stage in the development of offshore wind; the tender process of the Phase-3 Zonal Development also officially ended at the end of last month, and TAIYA, as the only local developer at the moment and Team Taiwan, did not miss out.

CEO Chen stresses that zonal development is not a new tender phase; more importantly, it will bring Taiwan new partners and technologies. For example, TAIYA has signed an MOU with Norwegian floating offshore wind leader BW Ideol, which is also a member company of NORWEP. Moreover, TAIYA has also reached out to 8 Norwegian offshore wind developers earlier this year, exchanging technologies and solutions.

CEO Chen points out that, building on the foundation of the MOUs, TAIYA explores more opportunities to partner with Norwegian solution providers. TAIYA also hopes that Norwegian developers will have opportunities to join forces with Taiwanese developers and deepen their participation in zonal development of wind farms.

NORWEP Energy Advisor, Ivy Liu pointed out that Norwegian companies have world-leading offshore equipment, professional knowledge and rich project experience in global wind farms. Therefore they have unique competitive advantages in many fields, especially floating wind technology and solutions. The Norwegian Energy Partners will promote Taiwan-Norway offshore wind industrial cooperation in the Taiwan market in key technologies and application solutions in the future.

According to TAIYA, NORWEP is Norway’s largest organization of the energy industry, and jointly promotes “Team Norway,” the strategic alliance of industries, with Innovation Norway and overseas ambassies, continually cooperating with industries in different countries and regions. NORWEP members have advanced technologies and solutions in different energy areas, and play important roles in international offshore wind projects. Their strengths are underwater construction, floating wind platform, vessel design and engineering, and wind power.

TAIYA is the visionary offshore wind development team in Taiwan, as well as the only local offshore wind developer at the moment. TAIYA has tendered for the first-stage zonal development this year, and announced in September its signing of MOU with Norwegian floating offshore wind leader BW Ideol. The two sides will cooperate in both the technical and capital aspects to jointly develop the 50 MW floating offshore wind demonstration project to be launched by Ministry of Economic Affairs next year.
